Doc Alt brings us a classic Media Whores post from March 2003. I never saw this the first time. I sure miss "The Horse".

VIETNAM 2 PREFLIGHT CHECK

1. Cabal of oldsters who won’t listen to outside advice?   Check.
2. No understanding of ethnicities of the many locals?   Check.
3. Imposing country boundaries drawn in Europe, not by the locals?   Check.
4. Unshakeable faith in our superior technology?   Check.
5. France secretly hoping we fall on our asses?   Check.
6. Russia secretly hoping we fall on our asses?   Check.
7. China secretly hoping we fall on our asses?   Check.
8. SecDef pushing a conflict the JCS never wanted?   Check.
9. Fear we’ll look bad if we back down now?   Check.
10. Corrupt Texan in the WH?   Check.
11. Land war in Asia?   Check.
12. Right unhappy with outcome of previous war?   Check.
13. Enemy easily moves in/out of neighboring countries?   Check.
14. Soldiers about to be dosed with *our own* chemicals?   Check.

I'm not entirely sure I'd check off some of those. For instance, "Local politicians ignored." How about the constitutional council that is currently meeting? Also, the country borders have been used in that area for a long time. Saddam Hussein made darn sure that everyone knew where his border began and ended. If by "land war in Asia" you mean that we are involved in a struggle over territory in Asia, you should recall that the current conflict is in the Middle East. Yes, this is part of Asia, but Iraq bears very little physical resemblence to Vietnam. Lastly (sorry to jump around), the "lack of understanding of local ethnicities" is true to an extent. However, the administration is at least attempting to bridge the Sunni/Shiite split.

Now that I've said my two cents, I'd like to also say that some of those things could bear a striking resemblence to Vietnam. But, without trying to sound overly critical, what is your point? How many wars do you know that someone couldn't make these same claims?
