The notion that we oughta now go into Baghdad and somehow take control of the country strikes me as an extremely serious one in terms of what we would have to do once we got there. You'd probably have to put some new government in place, it's not clear what kind of government what would be, how long you'd have to stay. For the US to get involved militarily in determining the outcome of the struggle over who's going to govern in Iraq strike me as a classic definition of a quagmire.

"This is the future of the new Iraqi government - it will be in the hands of the clerics," said Dr. Raja Kuzai, a secular Shiite member of the Assembly. "I wanted Iraqi women to be free, to be able to talk freely and to able to move around." "I am not going to stay here," said Dr. Kuzai, an obstetrician and women's leader who met President Bush in the White House.

The Defense Department today announced the first "America Supports You Freedom Walk" to honor the victims of 9/11 and America's military personnel, as well as to celebrate freedom.

The Freedom Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 in the Pentagon South parking lot, near the site where the airliner crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. The walk route will consist of a two-mile trek through Arlington National Cemetery, over the Potomac River, and will end by the reflecting pool on the National Mall, where a free concert featuring country music star Clint Black will take place.

"I am proud and honored to be part of the America Supports You Freedom Walk to honor the victims of 9/11 and to support our men and women in uniform," Black said.

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld made the announcement today at the Pentagon.

Doesn't Rumsfeld and the Pentagon have other going concerns? ... like in IRAQ!

I think the title of the parade could be revised a bit to reflect better it's intent. Maybe it should read:

'Freedom Walk' to Celebrate 9/11, Commemorate Freedom
Rather than the other way around.

They do the work so you don't have to.

Cenk Uygur is right. It is time to stop any attention being throw to the media whore shows like Meet The Press and their ilk. They serve no purpose other to further the administration line and to issue talking points. The "journalist with a conservative" round table formula has done more to hurt this country and put it in harms way and even the administration itself. They are part of the tools now that are being used to make this country nearly unrecognizable a large portion of the populous.

I wish I could share his hope for the "new media" of becoming the rising phoenix out of the ashes of what was once a strong and independent media in this country. He might be right but I just hope the transition does not come too late.
